Michael Wagler is the AARP Iowa State Director. AARP is the nation’s largest nonprofit, nonpartisan organization dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for all as we age, achieved by championing positive social change and delivering value through advocacy, information, and services. Prior to joining the AARP team, he was the State Coordinator of Main Street Iowa, a Main Street America Coordinating Program. In 2019, he began investing his talents in fundraising, grant writing, and project implementation towards the $5M rehabilitation of his neighborhood nonprofit arthouse cinema. He is the President of Des Moines Film and the Varsity Cinema, which was completed and reopened in December 2022. When he’s not pedaling Central Iowa’s bike trails, you’ll find him at the Varsity Cinema enjoying a movie and popcorn with his family.
