Grantmaking Consultant, Equity and Inclusion

Project Requirements

Scope of Work

Assess Current Practices: Review current grantmaking criteria, application processes, external communications, reporting structures, and evaluation methods to identify opportunities to incorporate equity, inclusion, and community-driven decision-making.

Develop Equity & Inclusion Framework: Create a framework or set of guiding principles that can be integrated into all aspects of MSA’s grantmaking, including:

  • Eligibility criteria
  • Application and reporting processes
  • Program evaluation and assessment
  • Communications and outreach strategies

Provide Recommendations & Tools: Offer actionable recommendations, best practices, and potential tools to help MSA:

  • Reduce barriers for historically underserved communities to access grants
  • Collect and analyze data on equity outcomes
  • Engage a wide range of stakeholders in decision-making processes
  • Train staff and partner programs on equity-informed practices
  • Create adaptable tools and messaging that allow MSA to integrate equity measures into our programs in ways that align with partners’ values and expectations 

Support Implementation & Capacity Building:

  • Develop training materials, templates, and guidance for staff and partners
  • Support pilot testing of revised grantmaking practices with select programs 
Desired Consultant Qualifications
  • Demonstrated expertise in equity, inclusion, and community-centered grantmaking
  • Experience working with nonprofit organizations, especially in capacity-building or systems change
  • Knowledge of best practices for equitable program design, assessment, and reporting
  • Strong facilitation and training skills for staff and partners
  • Ability to provide practical, actionable recommendations and tools 
Budget

We anticipate a project budget of approximately $15,000. Proposals should outline how deliverables will be achieved within this budget. 

Timeline
  • Question period: 10/13/202510/28/2025
  • Deadline for RFP responses: 10/28/2025
  • Consultant presentations/​interviews (by invitation): 11/6/202511/14/2025
  • Selection of consultant: 11/21/2025
  • Project kick-off: 12/2/2025
  • Final presentation of findings: 5/14/2026
Proposal Submission Requirements
  • Consultant/​Team Overview: Relevant experience and qualifications
  • Approach & Methodology: How you would assess MSA’s current grantmaking practices and develop an equity framework
  • Sample Work: Case studies, examples of previous consulting projects, or tools developed
  • Project Timeline & Deliverables: Key milestones and expected outcomes
  • Cost Proposal: Fees and any anticipated expenses
  • References: At least two references from similar projects 
Evaluation Criteria

MSA will evaluate proposals based on:

  • Relevant experience and qualifications
  • Depth and practicality of proposed approach
  • Demonstrated understanding of equity and inclusion in grantmaking
  • Project timeline and deliverables
  • Cost proposal and value
